Does anyone remember these tasty little treats? Home Run Pie! They are fruit/jelly filled snakes that were cased by an awesome pastry sort of donut shell. You could pick them up at the grocery store of gas station, usually 2 for a $1 and sometimes 3 for a $1. This one below is Pineapple flavor. I personally liked the Cherry and Chocolate filled ones, mmmmm. Let me know if anyone finds these in your local store, so that I may buy them all!
I am not sure what made me think of these, but I do know I was watching My Name Is Earl, season 2 on DVD yesterday and all of a sudden Home Run Pies started dancing in my mind. Maybe it was because I hadn't eaten yet, or perhaps I was reminiscing about the good days when being a kid consisted of playing in the dirt, watching cartoons, and eating junk food! Yay for being a kid, and yay for Toys R Us, and yay for Home Run Pies!

I know this post is way old, but it's one of the only ones out there where I can find the original logo (or at least the older logo that I can vaguely remember from my '80s childhood). If I think hard enough, I can remember another earlier version where it was just the bear's head and he had his tongue sticking out in determination. Either way, I'm planning on making a Home Run Pie shirt in honor of this childhood favorite.
I used to go the local Lucky's or Alpha Beta by my parents' house in Westchester, CA to get these treats. My favorite was the chocolate creme filled one. They were a much cheaper and decent "generic" alternative to the more expensive Hostess ones. I think I used to buy them anywhere between 1980-83, when I was 9-12 years old. Back then I remember them being super cheap, like $.29 a pop, as compared to the Hostess ones which were more like $.79 or something. I remember savoring the thick edges of the crust the most. Of course, the chocolate creme was awesome, but there was something so satisfying about eating those edges.
